Minimum tank size for Tangs?
« on: January 16, 2018, 02:45:32 PM »
Hey guys I am considering switching over my 40 gallon breeder to a Tang setup hoping to stock Altolamprologus and Julidochromis not sure exactly which ones yet. Is a 40 breeder large enough for a small two species tank and if so what numbers of each would be a good fit?
75 gal    1 M 3 F Metriaclima greshakei (Ice Blue Red Top)
2 M 5 F Labidochromis caeruleus (Electric Yellow Lab) 40 fry in grow out tank
             1 M 1 F Metriaclima esthrae OB
             1 M 3 F Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos (Maingano)
40 gal    1 M 4 F Metriaclima emiltos Mphanga (60 fry in grow out tank)
             1 M 1 F Metriaclima elongatus chailosi
40 gal    1 M 3 F Cynotilapia zebroides Hara White Top Gallireya Reef (over 100 fry in grow out tanks)
             1 M 3 F Chindongo saulosi           1 M 3 F Metriaclima callainos (Pearl Zebra)

I would go the the Julies mate better suited for the smaller tanks and you could also put a shell dweller in there too like n.simlis or gold occies they would go well together

I actually keep Shellie’s and Sumbu dwarfs in a planted 40 breeder. It works great. Just give the Sumbus a corner to them selves.

I used to keep Julies and neolamprologus brichardi together in my 55 gallon and it was plenty big enough. I would think a 40 breeder would be good for just julies. I remember paying $80 for each julie back in the 70's.
