The standard ideas are Yellow Labs, Ps. Saulosi, Rustys, Jalo Reef, ect.
Pick one or 2 that you like, and then work around them.
75gal   W/T Haras, Met. Membe Deep, and Kawanga Golds
60gal   Ps. Saulosi (1M and 9F) and 1 lonely OB Peacock.

everyone has different tastes, and different goals of how they want their set up to look. im sure you have some idea how you want it to look. i would do a bit of research based on size, color, and temperment. and go from there.

Hi,

I am in the same situation as you with a 55 gallon tank.

You could go for a species tank of P. saulosi, or more challenging some demasoni with yellow labs. Alternatives are rustles.

I am pretty new to cichlids so will leave advice to the far more experienced people, but that's what I have been recommended so far.

My 55 has been running for 2 years, and I started with 2 Kenyi's and a Sunshine Peacock, all about 1 and 1/2 inch from Petco to do a fish-in cycle using Prime to control ammonia and nitrites. After these I got all my fish from a breeder. About 2 weeks later I added two small peacocks and 4 yellow labs about 2 inches. A week later I added 4 rusties and 2 socolofi. Soon all the peacocks, and 1 Kenyi were Killed by the mbuna. Also 1 socolofi killed the other. Finally I added a couple powder blue zebras and 2 exasperatus'. My remining Kenyi has been having offspring with a zebra and usually 1 survives.I appear to be overloaded but the aggression is all but gone and all the fish are healthy. overfiltered and water change about every 3 days
