Stocking 240 litre Dwarf Mbuba
« on: August 10, 2016, 08:37:03 AM »
Hi all,

Just in the planning stages of stocking my new 240 litre dwarf mbuna setup. Been doing lots of research and it seems my options are P. saulosi, labs, demasoni or rusties.

I was thinking either:

- 12 demasoni and 4-5 yellow labs
- Saulosi species tank
- Demasoni species tank

What are people's thoughts? I am open to other fish/ combinations if suitable.

I am keen on only having tank bred fish rather than wild caught on ethical/ environmental grounds.

The tank will be filtered by 2x external filters, turnover about 7x per hour.

Really getting excited about this now!

Dan

I agree, a very good combo.

Saulosi would be my second pick.

im not sure labs are considered a dwarf species. the labs that ive dealt with grew 5" or more.

I agree, Labs are not "dwarf Mbunas", but are one of the few 5" Mbunas that can handle a smaller tank, and his tank is a 240L, which (I think) is probably about 48" long.

species tanks are a good option. easier to maintain imo. they kind of police themselves. the natural behavior is also a very nice benefit.

Yeh I was wondering about doing either a saulosi or demasoni species tank, saulosi seem somewhat difficult to get hold of though.

Personally I like the colour difference of the sexes with saulosi more than the demasoni
